Check a Builder's Licence & History
A builder's licence tells you they're allowed to do the work. Their licence history tells you how they've behaved while doing it. You want both before you sign.
A current licence is the floor, not the finish line
Confirming a builder holds a valid licence is the bare minimum, and it's only half the story. Licence class matters too. A builder licensed for one type of work isn't necessarily covered for the project you have in mind. And a licence that's been suspended, conditioned or disciplined in the past is worth knowing about.
What we check
We verify the builder's licence status, registration details and licence class against the relevant state building authority, confirm the scope of works that class actually permits, and check for disciplinary actions, sanctions, conditions and historical changes to the licence. We also confirm whether the required domestic building insurance or warranty cover is in place for your project.
Different state, different regulator
Licensing sits with a different body in each state - the VBA in Victoria, NSW Fair Trading and Building Commission NSW in New South Wales, and the QBCC in Queensland, among others. We check the right register for where your build is happening, so the verification actually means something.
